CANCER CELL APOPTOSIS-INDUCING COMPOSITION CONTAINING EXTRACT OF CASESALPINIA SAPPAN

PURPOSE: A cancer cell apoptosis-inducing composition containing the extract of Casesalpinia sappan is provided for treating the cancer. CONSTITUTION: Casesalpina sappan is a chinese medicinal herb and its extract is known to be useful for treating the cancer by improving activity of caspase which is a principle regulator of apoptosis mechanism. The method for preparing the extract of Casesalpina sappan comprises the steps of: peeling Casesalpina sappan; cutting minutely the peeled Casesalpina sappan; extracting the Casesalpina sappan with polar solvents such as water, methanol, butanol, and acetone, or nonpolar solvents such as ether, hexane, chloroform, and ethylacetate at room temperature or higher temperature. The extract of Casesalpina sappan activates protease, caspase.
