PURPOSE: A revising method and apparatus for seek servo system according to a kind of optical disk is provided to perform a stable seek operation by setting only initial value of a characteristic value for driving a seek servo system and revising the characteristic value according to a kind of an optical disk. CONSTITUTION: A sled motor driving unit(12) drives a sled motor for moving an optical pickup(10) to a target track of an optical disk(11) sought by the optical disk(10). An actuator driving unit(13) drives an actuator for performing a focusing/tracking control of the optical pickup(10). A focusing/tracking error detecting unit(14) computes output signals of photo diodes for detecting an optical volume reflected from the optical disk(11) and outputs an error signal. A timing unit(15) counts a time required when seeking an other location in a random location of the optical disk(11). A count unit(16) counts the number that the optical pickup(10) operated according to a characteristic value of a seek servo system(20) seeks an address randomly. A microcomputer(17) increases or decreases the characteristic value of the seek servo system(20) at a certain interval according to a result of a reference value detecting unit(19). A memory(18) stores a seek time and an error signal occurred according to a seek of the optical pickup(10). The reference value detecting unit(19) computes a mean value of the seek time and a mean error of the error signal stored in the memory(18) according to a control of the microcomputer(17).
