PURPOSE: A method for displaying an icon of a user interface for a synchronous optical transmission device is provided to increase the reliability of a system by changing a static and simple user interface graphic screen into a soft and dynamic screen, thereby notifying a user that a system is monitored and controlled in real time. CONSTITUTION: A user interface initializes a connection of an X toolkit and X display needed to make a relevant icon, and generates Top Level Window(11). A relevant BLINK_COLOR and a BLINK icon are generated(12). A timer to a BLINK_INTERVAL is set(13). It is judged whether an event is generated in the user interface(14). It is checked whether the event is an event to BLINK_INTERVAL timer(15). If a timer event is generated, an RGB tonality rate is changed into a percentage, and an RGB shading rate is calculated(16). A BLINK_COLOR value is respectively set(17). A time factor of a BLINK_PERIOD is calculated using the remainder operator(18). A timer to the BLINK_INTERVAL is set(19).
