The present invention relates to a nickel powder having a composite oxide layer comprising lanthanum and nickel on at least part of its surface, and optionally containing chromium oxide. Nickel powder is a process for making fine droplets of a solution containing at least one pyrolytic nickel compound, at least one pyrolytic lanthanum compound, and optionally at least one pyrolytic chromium compound, and the droplets are decomposed into nickel and lanthanum compounds. When the temperature is above or when a chromium compound is present, the nickel oxide, the lanthanum compound and the chromium compound are heated above the decomposition temperature, thereby producing the nickel powder and at the same time, the complex oxide comprising lanthanum and nickel in the vicinity of the surface of the nickel powder. It is produced by a method comprising a step of depositing a layer or a composite oxide charge and chromium oxide. The nickel powder produced according to the present invention can be suitably used for the conductor paste co-fired with the non-fired ceramic green sheet for laminated parts because the sintering start of the powder is effectively delayed around the sintering start temperature of the ceramic green sheet.
