POWER REDUCTION OF 2-D DCT USING CONTROL OF 1-D DCT

PURPOSE: A 2-D DCT(2-Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform) for reducing power consumption by controlling an operation of 1-D DCT is provided to reduce the power consumption by forming a 2-D DCT including two 1-D DCTs. CONSTITUTION: A power calculation and control portion(5) controls an operation of a rear 1-D DCT(3) within a 2-D DCT, calculates a power for each series between a matrix transposition portion(2) and the 1-D DCT(3), and outputs a signal for stopping operations of the 1-D DCT(3) and a quantizer(4) according to the calculated power. A MUX portion(6) receives an output signal of 0 from the power calculation and control portion(5) and outputs a value of 0 when the signal for stopping the operation is outputted from the power calculation and control portion(5).
