SUBSTANCE: proposed process of lining of cathode unit of electrolyzer for production of aluminum includes laying of refractory bricks, erection of hearth and side coal lining to prevent penetration of metal melt and electrolyte resulting in destruction of cathode unit and reduced service life of electrolyzer. Bricks are laid with horizontal and vertical bond by value of 0.25-0.5 length of brick. Joints between bricks are stopped with material based on oxides of materials, for example, alumina and/or silicon oxide with lump size of 20-30 μm.
