A mattress is formed by a rectangular cushion plate of foam material. It has a multi-layered elastic core of suitable foam material, with a lower layer (1) of spring bodies (2) and an upper layer (3) of spring bodies (4). The spring bodies are limited by transversal and longitudinal channels (5,6) formed in the plate-shaped foam material. Basic layers (7,8) form a lower side support for their individual spring bodies, with which they are connected in one piece, forming a cushion plate unit. Between the upper and lower layers (1,3) it is possible for one or more further layers of spring bodies to be arranged.
