The device has a number of chambers (2) for replaceable accommodation of cartridge-shaped surge absorbers in contact with an earth rail and a conducting track ending in a contact pin. Each chamber has a contact arrangement (6-8) for optional central accommodation of cartridge-shaped surge protectors without leads and in the form of 2 or 3 pole surge absorbers of different heights.
