The method involves providing machine-readable code for the data of a postal package with the address on an envelope, on the letterhead or on a card in addition to the address of the recipient. The data regarding the nature of the message are entered by means of a new text processing program or printer. An electronic data manager is used to read in the data in the form of a code. An Independent claim is also included for an electronic data manager with which the data can be read in the form of a code.
