The method for formulating a model based on the dam capacity and tail race consumption curves, from which water level in the dams and thereafter fall height and flow can be calculated, provides a genetic algorithm for the optimisation of hydroelectric power-station operation and turbine performance in closed hydraulic threshold chain systems. The model uses information from two independent suitably-placed volumeters monitoring the time-related inflow (Qzu) and outflow (Qab) to the dams and allowing for losses across the intermediate area (Z). From this the complex interdependency of the flow in the combined system can be determined so that an operating schedule can be drawn up. Little calculation time is required.
