The furnace shell for a shaft furnace or ring shaft furnace

The shell for a shaft furnace, an annular furnace or a similar unit incorporates a steel sheet casing, an internal lining masonry and at least one support unit which is attached to the steel casing and supports a section of the lining masonry. The unit incorporates an annular flange which is supported from below, is oriented at an acute angle to the steel casing, and forms a seating surface for the masonry. The furnace shell is characterised by the fact that the support unit (3) is provided with a sleeve (9) which circumferentially adjoins both the annular flange (6) and its support element, and is attached to the inside surface of the steel casing (1). The support element of the ring flange takes the form of a ring (10) joined along its outer and inner circumferences respectively to the sleeve (9) and the annular flange (6). In cross-section, the annular flange (6) and the ring (10) join one another at a right angle. Radially oriented support ribs are located between the flange and the ring. The sleeve (9) and the steel casing (1) are provided with aligned ventilation holes (11). An air guide strip (12) is located between the rows of ventilation holes. Cooling air is delivered through the holes of the bottom row. The support unit (3) is made up of prefabricated segments.
