The method involves directing an output (5a) of a laser oscillator (1) onto the surface of a Fabry- Perot plate (2) that is set at an angle. Part of the beam is reflected (5b) and part is transmitted to be received by a double pass laser amplifier (3) . Behind the amplifier is a phase conjugating mirror (4) that reflects the beam back through the amplifier and onto the Fabry-Perot plate.
