An ozone generator has a pair of electrodes separated by a dielectric and a stream of an oxygen-containing gas e.g. oxygen or air. The high voltage electrode (5) is a metallic, round or square section hollow tube, which is supplied with cold water by a pipe (7), and drained via a pipe (8) into a tank (9) which is all electrically isolated by insulators (15). An ozone generator has a pair of electrodes separated by a dielectric and a stream of an oxygen-containing gas e.g. oxygen or air. The high voltage electrode (5) is a metallic, round or square section hollow tube, which is supplied with cold water by a pipe (7), and drained via a pipe (8) into a tank (9) which is all electrically isolated by insulators (15). Circulation of cooling water through the electrode is by a pump (10), which is electrically insulated (12) from its drive motor (13) and cantilever supported from the insulated vessel (9). The water may be cooled via a heat exchanger (16) against the feed oxygen, and/or using a forced convection cooler (28,29) in the circuit. Alternatively a once-through, mains water system may be used, employing electrical isolation vessels (34) upstream and downstream of the high voltage electrode. These isolation units allow droplet movement only through a sequence of insulated, perforated trays (36).
