The motor has a protective sleeve (2) enclosing the brush contact surface of the commutator at a small radial distance. The protective sleeve can be moved axially from an assembly retention position into an operating end position within the brush holder (1). As the commutator and brush holder are axially assembled the brushes (8,9) are first held in the retention position at a radial distance from the brush contact surface of the commutator; when the commutator and brush holder reach their mutual operating end position the brushes are brought into contact with the contact surface.
