Process involves determination of the number of unknown physical quantities needed to determine mass flow and pressure distribution within a pipe network with nine elements (1,2.....17,18). An equation relating the number of values required to be measured to the number of pipe network resistances, the number of pipe network nodes and the number of resistances per node is solved. The required number of non-redundant measurements are then made and mass and energy conservation equations for the pipe network solved. Values for pressure and or mass flow at selected points in the pipe network are determined by insertion of the values from the equation system. The equations are solved and signals generated for the measured value.
