New pivaloyl-oxirane or diol derivatives, used as photolabile linkers for solid phase synthesis in combinatorial chemistry

2-Pivaloyl-2-(substituted alkyl)-oxirane derivatives (including diol analogs) (I), optionally in resin-bonded form, are new. Pivaloyl compounds of formula (I) are new. A = CH2 or phenylene; B' = COOH, CH2OH or CH2NH2; R = H or 1-6C alkyl; X = O or CH2; Y, Z' = OH or together form an oxirane ring; n = 0-6. Independent claims are included for: (i) compounds (I) bonded to a resin via a functional group B', i.e. compounds (I'); and (ii) protected resin bonded compounds of formula (II). P' = alcohol protecting group; Q = resin.
