Silicic acid aerosols used for testing filters, transporting adsorbed pollutants, and producing active materials for sensors

Silicic acid aerosols are produced by moistening the surface of a silicon dioxide-containing material with water, subjecting the surface to irradiation with ultraviolet light having a wavelength of 150-230 nm and taking in the emitted particles from the carrier gas. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the production of silicic acid aerosols comprising a silicon dioxide-containing material (6) in a radiation chamber (9). The chamber is flushed with carrier gas. An apparatus to moisten the carrier gas with water is provided before the radiation chamber (9).
