UV irradiation assembly consists of a hood with a UV light source (3) and an associated mirror unit (4, 5). The mirror (4, 5) sub-divides the space within the hood into two zones, the upper part (2) of which is operated at reduced pressure and the lower part of which (1) is operated at increased pressure. The upper (2) and lower (1) chambers are separated by a collision chamber (14b, 14c) which is linked with the low-pressure chamber (2).
