In a laser cutting process for leather skins, a skin is placed on a cutting bench by an operator and secured. The skin is then cut up into pre-determined shapes using a pre-determined algorithm. During the cutting process, the operator moves to a second cutting bench and removes the leather residues from a previous cutting operation prior to positioning and securing a new leather skin for the laser cutter. The operator then moves to a third cutting bench and repeats the second operation. The single laser (12) cutting instrument is mounted on an overhead assembly, and moves from one cutting bench to the next as required.
