Biodegradable thermoplastic molding material giving molded products with a homogeneous appearance, wood-like feel and good mechanical-physical properties

Biodegradable thermoplastic molding materials comprising (a) 20-90 wt% starch ester with a degree of substitution (DS) of less than 3 and a residual acetic acid content of 0.5-10 wt% and (b) 2-75 wt% defibrillated natural fibers containing 2-25 wt% polyalkylene glycol with a mol. wt. of 200-2000, absorbed during compounding. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of these materials, in which the starch acetate used contains 0.5-10 wt% acetic acid from the esterification process, the natural fibers contain 2-25 wt% absorbed polyalkylene glycol (PAG) and the compounding is carried out in a twin-screw kneader.
