A valve control unit for IC engines has at least two different valve times. A cam packet having at least two adjacent cam paths is assigned to each valve. The packet is located to be non-rotatable but able to slide axially on a camshaft. For each cam packet a number of spring-loaded operating pegs and locking pegs are assigned to the axial adjustment of the cam packets. The operating pegs (12,13) can be coupled in positive-locking fashion to at least one adjusting device (14,15) sliding axially against the load of a return spring (28) by means of an adjusting drive (26,27) and aligned parallel to the camshaft (3). All this is in a withdrawal position in which they find themselves out of engagement with the coulisse path (9) of the assigned coulisse plate (7,8).
