Valved air vent used in tire vulcanization mold is made of only two parts, gripping into bore in mold and sealing at internal surface when green tire contacts domed resilient disc, in simple trouble-free design
Each valve (1) is two-part, with central peg-like body fixed in mold vent bore, and complementing a detachable sealing section (3). This has a resilient flat area (4) laid against the interior of the mold. On contact with the surface of the tire blank, this works with the central body to form a seal. Preferred features: The cylindrical central body diameter is less than that of the vent bore. Grips (10) on the body or sealing section fasten into the bore, also forming vent channels. The seal has a disc- or dome-shaped sealing surface with incisions (6) and/or recesses (7). Around its circumference, couplings (5) with in-turned hooked-ends connect it to the central body. The sealing surface is supported on the body at its edges. Resilient deformation towards and against the body closes the air openings. There is a main vent opening (7) centrally in the seal, closing onto a complementary body rest, when the valve closes. Side couplings have a bayonet-like attachment mode. A variant of the design is described based on similar principles. Bore/peg interference fit is quantified. Seal diameter exceeds vent bore diameter. Spring sheet metal may be used to make the disc seal, its thickness 0.05-0.5 mm. The dome characteristic angle is about 20 deg .
