The milling cutter incorporates replacement lugs (2) inserted into transverse grooves in a basic body (1). The lugs have separate cutting teeth arranged on a spiral. The lugs are tightened with the aid of clamping cones (3) through the slotted basic body. The cross-toothed lugs can be sharpened separately outside the basic body and sharpened in sets by means of a profiled grinding wheel in a direction at right angles to the length of the replacement lugs. The periphery of the basic body has axial slits in forming an elastic wall at the foot of the lugs.
