A method for fitting seats and covers to a WC has identical hinge blocks (2) for each side of the seat and cover. Each block has a main block (4) with a bore (6) to take the pivot shaft. A hole inside each block takes a screw fastener to secure the block to the WC seat or cover. The screw fastener is accessed via a tooling hole (16) on the opposite side of the block which has a flat surface (12) at right angles to the radius of the block. The flat is straddled by two tags (14) which help secure the block.
