The rail posts (4) should be cut off just above the ground or building so a prefabricated baseplate (1) can be fixed to the protruding bottom part of the post. An intermediate plate (5) is then releasably joined to the baseplate and the post is then fixed at required height to the plate (5) by means of a holding shoe (7). Tapped holes are arranged at equal spacing round the baseplate close to the plate perimeter and a hole is made in the center of the baseplate to match the outside contour of the rail post. The intermediate plate (5) has through-holes corresponding to the tapped baseplate holes so the shoe can be fitted to the plate (5) as described. Preferably the intermediate plate holes come in slot form with their axis at right angles to the line of the rail and both baseplate and intermediate plate are rectangular or round and made in noncorroding material.
