The mechanism to raise and lower components which guide yarn movements, especially the longitudinal rails or ring frames (10) along a ring spinning machine with pull cables (9), gives a slow acceleration to the alternating movements of the ring frame (10) at each top dead point and a rapid braking action at each bottom dead point. The mass in the mechanism can be given an equal and rapid braking before reaching the top dead point. The acceleration at each top dead point is at a rate of 0.1-0.2 m/s2, and the rapid braking action at each bottom dead point gives a delay rate of 0.25-0.5 m/s2. At the bottom dead point, an acceleration is developed slowly at 0.1-0.2 m/s2. A slow braking can be applied at the top dead point at 0.1-0.2 m/s2. The acceleration can be rapid at the bottom dead point. At the bottom direction change point, a dead time is held for 10-20 ms between the downwards and upwards movements. At the top dead point, a movement stoppage time of 30-50 ms is held between the braked movement and the following accelerated downwards movement. An Independent claim is included for an assembly with a pull cable system (9) to move the ring frame (10) which is suspended from the pull cables (9.1-9.3) alone for the vertical forces. Preferred Features: The pull cable system (9) is connected to the belt disk (8) of a drive gearing (3). They pass over at least one deflection (11.1,11.2) along the horizontal longitudinal direction or across it. The drive motor (5) is controlled by a frequency setter, linked to a control which is also connected to sensors (16) and a data input station. The control gives nominal frequencies for the frequency setter according to the technological data fed in through the input and the parameter measurements from the sensors (16) such as the output from the sliver drawing stage, the stroke movement of the ring frame (10) and the movement pulses of the drive (3,5) for the ring frame (10). A sensor (16) transmits absolute values. A brake and a pulse generator (16) are at the motor (5). The motor (5) is linked to the drive gearing (3) by a toothed belt (4). The belt disk (8) with the pull cables (9) is fitted to the output shaft (7) of a screw gearing (3). The motor (5) is structured to require a reversing time span of 10-20 ms. The dynamic moment of the motor (5) in Nm, divided by its natural inertia mass in kg/m2, is -4000.
