The shaft of the tool or workpiece is axially positioned in the central socket (4) by a stop member (9) axially adjusted by a setting device (12) which is formed as a worm drive and has a worm (13) mounted rotatable transversely to the socket in the chuck body (1), and a worm wheel (14) mounted coaxial with the socket. The stop is coupled to the worm wheel and held in the chuck body so that rotary movement of the worm wheel is converted into axial movement of the stop. The stop can be held rotationally secured but axially displaceable on the worm wheel and has an external thread which engages with an internal thread of the chuck.
