Central tunnel for fitting exhaust system to vehicle chassis has a universal shape with a separate heat shield for each type of exhaust system

A central tunnel (1) running the length of the bottom plate of a vehicle chassis accommodates the exhaust system (7) and is fitted with a heat shield (5) between the exhaust system and the tunnel. The heat shield is shaped to fit over the top of the exhaust system with a limited space (6) for air cooling. The rear end of the exhaust tunnel has a sloping cross plate to deflect the warmed air downwards. The same floor plate is adapted for different engines using dedicated heat shields.
