The assembly to condense a drawn sliver, at a ring spinner, has a clamping roller (16) which rotates at a surface speed which is 3-8% faster than the surface speed of the final roller pair (2) at the drawing unit. The drive for the clamping roller (16) is connected to the drive for at least one roller (6,7) in the final pair (2) of drawing rollers. A mesh belt (15) supports the drawn sliver (10) at the clamping roller (16), to carry the sliver through at the speed of the clamping roller (16) rotation, over a suction slit (19). The mesh belt (15) movement is applied by the clamping roller (16), or vice versa. The mesh belt (15) moves over a stationary sliding surface with the suction slit (19). The mesh belt (15) has a smoother side towards the sliding surface, which is curved in the direction of sliver travel. The clamping roller (16) is carried by the arm (23) which applies pressure to the rollers of the drawing unit (1).
