Spherical fuel and absorber elements and also fuel bodies as inserts for prismatic fuel elements are produced by pre-pressing a mixture of fuel or absorber particles and graphite powder to a core under a pressure of 3-7 MN/m2, embedding into a layer of graphite pressed powder in a rubber mold, pressing into air-permeable pressed body at 13-17 NM/m2, and pressing the body in a further rubber mold to a final density at a pressure of 200-300 MN/m2.
