The groundwater pollution investigation or prospecting system comprises an optical fiber and a laser with rotating beam system exciting marker. Preferred Features: Coupling in and/or out is through an optical fiber (80) in the measurement location; the optical fiber being moved by a motor (90). The beam is deflected (using a prism, lens or mirror) through a given, essentially circular path by a rotary unit. The radiation employed is light. The beam includes emission wavelengths of 200-500 nm. The substance measured is excited by the light, which is produced by a laser. The substance is a marker introduced into the borehole.
