An electrode plate support (10), comprises a surface structured tab (15) welded to a woven metal wire material (11) such that the wires are more lightly compressed at the tab edge region. An electrode plate support (10), for press or roller coating with active material, comprises a woven metal wire material (11) with a current collection tab (15) which is welded at one side along a weld zone (17) having a structured surface (18) comprising a series of raised contact points (19). At the lower edge of the tab (15), the contact points (19) form a highly compressed weld region which exhibits extremely good contact between the wire material and the tab surface and which adjoins a more lightly compressed tab edge weld region in which the wires are less severely constricted and deformed by the welding operation. An Independent claim is also included for a method of one-sided welding of a current collection tab to the above electrode support. Preferred Features: The wire material and the tab are made of Ni 99.2 (Material No. 2.4066) or Ni 99.6 (Material No. 2.4060) and are welded together by single spot resistance welding.
