In a process and assembly to relax and stabilize the equilibrium of a volume of sweet water, two electrodes are introduced into the water. The two electrodes are made of different metals which occupy widely separate positions in the electrochemical voltage order. One of the metals has a standard electrode potential in the negative range, and the other is in the positive range. The metals are preferably plate-shaped pieces of copper and zinc and are protected from direct contact with other metal components by plastic sheaths with grid-shaped perforations.
