The press unit (10), to process a web or board (12) and especially of cardboard, has at least one press gap (14) between a rotating roller (16) and at least one counter surface (18) which supports the material over the water extraction station (20). The press applies a virtually continuous water extraction action on the board (12) material. The water extraction station (20) is formed by a water extraction plate, which is rigid and perforated. A vacuum is applied to the under side of the water extraction plate (20), to assist the water extraction from the material. The rotating roller (16) and the water extraction unit (20) are moved in a direction (R) in relation to each other, at right angles to the press plane (E) through the press gap (14), or it is angled at the press plane. Or the water extraction plate (20) is static, and the roller (16) moves along its counter surface (18). Or the roller (16) is static, and the water extraction plate (20) and flat counter surface (18) move over the roller (16). The rotating roller (16) and the water extraction unit (20) move on a direction (R) at right angles or at an angle to the press plane (E). The material (12) and the water extraction unit (20) do not move in relation to each other, at least at times. At least one blanket and/or fourdrinier (22,24) moves through the press gap (14) with the material (12), with a fixed relative position at least at times. The roller (16) is a suction roller. The roller (16) and/or water extraction plate (20) has a profiled surface.
