Melt-textured samarium-barium cuprate high temperature superconductor bulk sample production, by texture heat treatment of a top seeded sample in air. Melt-textured bulk samples, based on the high temperature superconductor SmBC (Sm1Ba2Cu3O7/Sm2Ba1Cu1O5), are produced by (a) carrying out powder metallurgical production of each bulk sample up to and including the first heat treatment in air; (b) top seeding each sample; (c) compacting and texturing by heat treatment in air; and (d) post-heat treating for 6-24 hr. at 800-1010 deg C in an argon or argon/oxygen atmosphere or in air for final adjustment of the critical temperature (Tc) and critical current density (jc).
