The method involves detecting at least one measured signal parameter which has at least one end value, whose value controls the drive unit. A standard value for this parameter is provided. In dependence on this standard value the measured parameter is converted into a relative measurement parameter. The method involves determining the range in which the end value of the parameter achieved within a predetermined time, falls. The standard value is determined from a base value associated with this range. Independent claims also cover an apparatus for carrying out the method.
