A sealing unit for sealing the outer surfaces of longitudinal, especially cylindrical members, e.g. pipes or cables, comprises a base member which is open in the circumferential position and whose free ends can be joined in the assembly position. The free ends can be joined and have sealing surfaces. The sealing surfaces (20,22) are located on separate end sections which are held on the free ends of the base member.
