The procedure controls the back-shifting of a main gearbox (3) with at least one higher and one lower transmission stage, for a car with an IC engine (1). The engine is connected via an input shaft of the main gearbox to the driving wheels of the car and an electrical machine (9). The electrical machine may be connected via another sort of gearbox, variable in its transmission ratio to the engine and the input shaft of the main gearbox. For back-shifting the main gearbox, the synchronizing speed of the lower transmission stage of the main gearbox is adjusted by a change of the transmission ratio of the other sort of gearbox. The adjustment of the synchronizing speed occurs at least by an increase of the transmission ratio of the other gearbox.
