Neutron-optical component, especially a sub-thermal neutron beam collimator or polarizer, has repeating sequences of a neutron conducting metal foil between neutron absorbing and/or spin selective reflecting layers
A neutron-optical component has repeating sequences of a neutron conducting metal foil (A) between neutron absorbing and/or spin selective reflecting layers (C). A neutron-optical component has a repeating neutron conducting and neutron absorbing layer sequence, each neutron conducting layer consisting of a 5-500 mu thick metal foil (A) arranged between neutron selective layers, which comprise 0.5 mu thick absorbing layers (B), 1 mu thick spin selective reflecting layers (C) or a spin selective reflecting layer and an absorbing layer. Preferred Features: The spin selective reflecting layer (C) is a super-mirror e.g. of a Si-FeCo layer system or is a single layer e.g. of FeCo. The absorbing layer (B) is a Gd layer. The metal foil (A) consists of Al, Sn, Zr, Pb, Cu, Nb, Mo, Zn, Cr or V.
