Substituted isophosphindolines (I) and bis-isophosphindolines (II), and their metal complexes (A), are new. Isophosphindolines of formulae (I) and (II) (optionally in chiral or enantiomer-enriched form) are new: R = H, alkyl, aryl, haloaryl or haloalkyl; R1 = as R but not H; R2, R3 = as R, alkoxy, amino, dialkylamino, sulfonate or F; or two adjacent R2/R2, R2/R3 or R3/R3 = bridging group; R4 = alkanediyl, arene diyl or heteroarene diyl; alkyl or haloalkyl includes corresponding cyclic groups. An Independent claim is included for novel complex compounds (A), containing (I) or (II) as ligand and at least one metal, preferably a transition metal, particularly palladium, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, iridium, cobalt, nickel and/or copper.
