A foundry investment material contains an expansion additive of oxygen-reactive metal, metal carbide and/or metal nitride powder. A foundry mould investment material, for casting high melting reactive materials, comprises a thermodynamically stable basic material of zirconium oxide, magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide, cement binder and an expansion additive of metal, metal carbide and/or metal nitride powder which reacts with oxygen for volume increase of the material on mould firing.
