Two tools for compacting, smoothing and finish shaping operations on plastic joint and sealing materials comprise cutting edges along their periphery which are shaped to deal with such operations. The two, substantially square tools consist of an elastic material with smooth sides (22, 23). They are at least 5 mm thick, and are provided with a cutting edge (35) along their periphery. Besides the main sections (1, 2, 3, 4), the cutting edges include angular sections (9, 12), a circular arc (10), and convex and concave sections. The cutting edges are formed by a 45degrees undercut running along the entire tool periphery.
