Production of a highly radioactive miniature strontium ceramic radiation source comprises calcining an evaporation residue containing strontium and titanium, zirconium and/or silicon compounds and micro-extruding. Production of highly radioactive miniature ceramic 90Sr radiation sources comprises: (a) mixing an aqueous 90Sr salt solution with dissolved titanium, zirconium and/or silicon compounds and a solution of one or more ammonium salts of carbonic acid and/or low molecular organic acid; (b) evaporating off the solvent; (c) calcining the residue; (d) transforming to a plastic state after adding auxiliary materials; (e) micro-extruding to filaments; (f) sintering; and (g) cutting into lengths. An Independent claim is also included for a highly radioactive miniature cylindrical 90SrTiO3, 90SrSiO3 or 90SrZrO3 radiation source having an activity of greater than 25 mCi/mm3 and a diameter of less than 0.7 mm.
