System comprises a main air line supplied from a compressor (22) with an air line to each bogie (3) connected to the main air line via a non-return or gate valve, compressed air container or directly to operate the brake. A control unit for an auxiliary sprung safety brake is supplied from the same line. A local electronic brake control unit (31) controls brake operating valve and safety brake. Independent claims are made for a bogie using the brake system claimed and a brake control unit.
