The use of foliated glass as a mineral filler in a polyurethane foam-based building material improves the mechanical and thermal properties. Improving the mechanical and thermal properties of a building material based on a polyurethane foam comprises adding to the starting material a mineral additive comprising foliated glass prior to foaming. Independent claims are included for a building material as above and a wall component for a building using this material.
