Elastic particles comprising at least partly rubber form a component for the coating for running tracks, child play areas, army obstacle tracks or assault courses. The elastic particles are mixed with decomposed lava. The component can also be composed of old material, such as waste coatings, old tires, conveyor belts and the like. The components and the lava are mixed with each other without a bonding agent. The lava is incorporated in an amount of approximately 30 per cent by volume to approximately 80 per cent by volume in the mixture. The components also contain stone chippings.
