Sterilization of water filters (especially drinking or industrial water filters containing activated carbon) is effected by continuously adding a regulatable amount of stabilized H2O2 to the flowing water. There is an Independent claim for apparatus for effecting the process, this comprising a controllable device for dosing stabilized H2O2 to the water in an amount of 1 : 50-10,000.
