A raw graphite electrode graphitizing plant comprising raised tie-rods between electrode clamping supports and a travelling carriage for hydraulic cylinder and electrical contact plate transfer between furnaces. A plant for graphitizing raw graphite electrodes comprises several adjacent graphitizing furnaces, each of which has: (a) two adjacent electrode holders in the form of adjustable spaced-apart head electrodes between which the raw electrodes are clamped; (b) contact plates seated on the connection-side head electrodes and connected to high current supply cables; (c) adjustable hydraulic cylinders supported against counter-bearings and acting on the contact plates; (d) connected contact plates directly supported on counter-bearings at the opposite side from the connection side and seated on corresponding head electrodes; and (e) an arrangement allowing transfer of the hydraulic cylinders, including the connection-side and rear-side contact plates, from one furnace to another. The novelty is that above-floor tie-rods are provided between the corresponding counter-bearings to allow lifting of the hydraulic cylinders and the connection-side contact plates by a travelling carriage having high current lines for connecting the contact plates to switchable contacts on busbars extending along the plant.
