Sheet metal frame for rotating electrical machines with permanent excitation has a square frame, a rotor shaft and a laminated rotor body with windings set in slots. The number of slots is calculated by the formula N=2p.q.m+/-1. A coil side is apportioned onto two slots lying alongside each other. These slots are only half filled. A magnetic pole structure consists of two or more permanent magnets (1) arranged axially one after the other offset opposite each other in a magnetic slot (3) and fastened with a separator (2). In other types of operation the layout of the permanent magnets on the periphery with a radial or tangential layout of permanent magnets is unsymmetrical through a reduction in pole pitch.
