The device has a controllable receiver for receiving signals from external distance measurement devices, a receiver controller and an evaluation device. The receiver has at least three geometrically positioned sensors (E1-E3) at which the external signal (21-23) is received with different detectable transition time differences. The evaluation device derives the distance to the external device from the transition time differences of at least two sensor pairs and the known sensor disposition. A signal-echo monitoring device transmits a signal with a characteristic signal shape selected to avoid interference with the external signal. Independent claims are also included for a distance measurement system and for a distance measurement method
